(2016)
One of my more unique and explorative creations. I was given the challenge in researching a culture's art, and then creating something inspired by that, but also including a reference to me and my style. I chose to study the art of the Maori people in New Zealand. Masks are very popular within their art, but rather than creating a mask, I chose something more my style. I chopped up a wooden pallet and recycled the wood as my canvas, and used spray paint and masking tape to creating the painting. I then used a torch to create burn marks in different areas of the wood. I did my best however to make sure the patterns and designs within the painting are very strongly influenced by traditional Maori art. The soft blue eyes are even a reference the the native pearls the Maori would use when assembling their masks.
