Being the final project in my photo class, we were given complete freedom as to what we wanted to do. I decided I wanted to capture the visual style of the 2 films by Danish directer Nicholas Winding Refn. Those two movies being Drive (2011) and Only God Forgives (2013). I fell in love with his cinematography and his high contrast coloring, which interestingly enough is due in part to his colorblindness. After gathering my research I began shooting every weekend, trying out many different lenses and many different locations. I wasn't sure what I was looking for in terms of an image but I felt safe in the idea that I would know it when I see it. After shooting hundreds and hundreds of photos I assembled together this set of images to create a visual story about a Driver. The story itself however, I leave up to the viewer to create.
